Black-a-Tor Copse - I'm Walking Anyway Wednesday
6th May 2026 4-5 hours - Maximum 4 people
Every Wednesday I go walking on Dartmoor. I'm a qualified Hill & Moorland Leader and a photographer, and I'd be doing this whether anyone came along or not.
You're welcome to join me.
What this is?
A proper walk on Dartmoor with a qualified guide and a working photographer. Roughly 4-5 hours at a pace that allows for photography, which means we stop when something's worth stopping for. Expect somewhere between 5 and 7 miles depending on terrain and conditions. Expect to use your camera, or not, as you prefer.
This walk has a few steep bits, and probably a bit of a paddle (if you’re feeling brave) 😜
What this isn't
A technical photography workshop. I'm not going to lecture you on aperture priority or make you take a notebook out. If you want a structured photography day with planned locations, small group teaching, and proper instruction, that's a different thing I also offer … details on the main Workshops page.
This is the economical version. You get a qualified guide on the moor for a fraction of what private guiding costs, because you're joining a walk I'm already doing rather than commissioning one. A private day's guiding with me is £250. This is £65, shared with up to three other people.
My approach to photography
I shoot Dartmoor through mostly old film camera lenses as well as projector lenses, adapted cctv lenses, darkroom enlarger glass … and I call what I do Curious Photography. It's an approach rather than a technique. If you want to try something different with whatever camera you already own, I'll happily talk you through it as we walk. Bring any camera. Bring your phone. Bring nothing. All genuinely fine.
Practical details
Meet at Prewley Moor (time to be discussed if anybody signs up - I’m happy for sunrise, but I understand some people aren’t “morning people” 🤣
Wear proper walking boots and bring waterproofs.
Bring water and something to eat.
Reasonable fitness required, some rough ground, some ascent, nothing extreme (please message me if you have an special requirements I can make arrangements for).
The walks will run in almost all weather. I'll only cancel for safety reasons (serious wind, lightning, deep snow), and if I cancel you get a full refund
Bookings are non-refundable but transferable. If you can't come, send someone in your place 😍
A note on expectations
I genuinely don't mind if nobody books. I'll be on the moor either way. This isn't some kind of false modesty or ridiculous reverse-psychology marketing … it's how this works.
If you do come, you're getting a day I was going to enjoy anyway, and I'd rather spend it with people who want to be there than perform for people who don't.
If that sounds like your sort of thing, book below (or message me for more information) 💚📷
