The Dartmoor Podcast (not a podcast) - a meetup with George
Back in January of 2025, which really does seem like an age ago now. We met up with George the brains behind the splendid “Dartmoor Podcast” (not a podcast) 😂
George is truly a real character.
I stumbled across his YouTube Channel when it first started and have been a keen watcher ever since, though I still have plenty of episodes to catch up with! In fact I have been listening to them and catching up as I finished this article (started over a year ago) and a second article concerning a video interview I made with him at Lustleigh Cleave.
Anyway, at some point in our original conversations, George, referred to himself as a “misanthropic grump” 😁 I’m not sure that’s a fair description, in my opinion he’s most definitely amicable, agreeable, witty and most definitively knowledgeable.

At that time I had become randomly obsessed with my MPP Large Format Field Film Camera (an accidental purchase, a long story, remind me to tell you some time in the future) I wanted to take some portraits of people I knew who did stuff on and around Dartmoor, so I asked if George would be willing to be a victim of this latest rather unthought through idea 😍
Being a gentleman and presumably not wishing to upset my fragile artists ego, George agreed to meet up be a part of my project. He let me know he was interviewing someone for his podcast(*not a podcast) at Sourton Down Cross on Saturday morning, planning to leave his bike near Sourton Church, do some filming at Sourton Tor and then head towards Black-a-Tor Copse to camp (in the permitted area).
We decided to try and bump into one another, either en route, or at the copse.

As it happens, we bumped into George on Shelstone Tor, had a good chat (and grabbed a few photographs) before heading down to the Copse to take some photographs with the Large Format Film Camera (and my Sony, with it’s vintage lenses).
George was polite enough to let me take some film portraits with my large format camera as well as some digital images with my vintage lenses and Sony. Adding to my growing collection of Dartmoor Portraits.
“A series of short documentaries on all things Dartmoor: myths and legends, history, nature, wild camping, literature, interesting local people, and more!”
There’s something for everybody in The Dartmoor Podcast back catalogue - from Halloween Specials to Dawn Chorus soundscapes 😍
Highly, highly recommended! The Dartmoor Podcast (*not a podcast)
