Grey Wethers Stone Circle on Dartmoor
Fine art print of Grey Wethers Stone Circle on Dartmoor, photographed on Dartmoor. Papers: Enhanced Matte Art paper or Hahnemuhle German Etching, or framed. From £30, free UK delivery.
“Wethers” is an old Westcountry word for Castrated “Sheep” or “Goat” and the two stone circles of Grey Wethers are said to resemble a flock of sheep from afar. I can’t say that I’ve thought this myself, but I can see how pretty much anything can be mistaken for something else in a thick Dartmoor mist!
Plenty of legends surround the circles (I shall leave you to research these yourself) the only thing that can be said with any certainty is that the circles have been reconstructed at some point (most likely by over enthusiastic Victorians).
Check this Blog Post I did for more information on my prints 😍
The circles are located a little way from Sittaford Tor and are well worth the effort to visit (be wary of soggy ground).
