Thaila Bags - Lifestyle & Product Photography

Way back in April a satisfied customer tagged me in a Facebook post where a local fellow was looking for somebody to take some photographs for a project he was working on.

Beautifully handcrafted handbags and bags made using only the finest 100% cottons and fabrics. Purchased and imported direct from a family run business from Dehli, India.

I’ve long given up on taking part in the ‘pick me! pick me!’ approach to getting work, so I politely thanked the person who tagged me and posted a link to my work.

Luckily Leon recognised my style from posts he’d seen on several Dartmoor related Facebook Pages and asked that I meet him to talk about the job.

Yes! This is the same Leon who runs L’hos Arts & Crafts the same Leon I did a blog entry about recently, however I originally met him when he asked me to take photographs for Thaila Bags (unfortunately the pandemic meant that the images of the bags I had taken couldn’t be used until now) and I actually took the photographs for his bespoke rustic furniture business after the ones of the bags 😍

Leon explained the concept he had for photographs of the Thaila Bags and between us we came up with what I hope are some innovative and appealing images.

Leon wasn’t keen to have standard ‘product’ images and I suggested that as I’m out and about quite a bit, I would (when the weather wasn’t too inclement) take a selection of bags with me and attempt to shoot them in some natural and maybe unexpected locations.

During discussions with Leon, I mentioned to him that I’d worked with a local model who I thought might work well with creating a few lifestyle images. Amy is also a photographer and has worked extensively in the entertainment industry, so I knew she’d be able to bring something to the table herself.

I wasn’t disappointed, we both researched the idea, and the way products like Indian bags had been photographed in the past.

We decided to combine the idea of the bright natural hippy nature of the bags, with the Vogue-like way handbags are normally marketed.

Amy’s styling and posing, combined seamlessly with my use of vintage lenses and a rather splendid sunny day in Simmons Park in Okehampton to create some images I’m rather pleased with, and more importantly so was Leon! 🤣

Having spent quite a few hours handling the bags, and carrying them a greater number of kilometres 😁 I can happily commend both the craftmanship and the artistry that goes into each of the bags, if they didn’t clash with my eyes, I’d definitely be sporting one 🤣
