Photoshoots for Creatives - Megan Tarrant

Back in May, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with and photographing the wonderful actress Megan Tarrant.

We’d actually discussed working together some time ago however (as with many things) the pandemic put paid to our artistic endeavours.

I think Megan enjoyed herself 😍

Megan wanted to have some images for her portfolio and I was happy to oblige.

Having long ago realised that many of my portrait images could pass as stills from films that have never been made I have recently been working towards shooting my own short feature.

Consequently I was keen to meet up with Megan and see if she’d be at all interested in taking part in my (very slightly hairbrained) idea 😍

I’m really pleased to report that she agreed … now all I have to do is finish writing a script, decide on locations, organise numerous actors, sort out sound, learn to edit effectively, find a special effects person, chase up my composer friend … expect an update in 2045 😂

I picked Megan up from the railway station in Okehampton and we had planned on travelling a little way onto the moor, to take advantage of the varied landscapes.

On the way to our first location, I pointed out the glorious display of bluebells on East Hill and we decided that we’d try and stop there on our way back if time allowed.

Our first stop was Black-a-Ven Brook, I knew from experience of shooting people here previously, that the small grouping of trees and the cascading waters made for a fantastic backdrop. Megan slipping on the moss and falling into the brook only seemed to add to the natural feel of the images 😁

Megan, the consummate professional, laughed off her stumble and suggested she just get in the brook 😍

I only discovered I still had her wet socks in my rucksack when I got home later that day!

Almost all of the creatives I have worked with have taken time to comment on the number of worthwhile images that they receive from one of my shoots, I think this has a lot to do with finding common ground with your subject, or at least spending the time to understand what they’re hoping to achieve.

As it’s becoming more and more clear that nobody is likely to laud my work except me, this seems like a good point to ‘blow my own trumpet’ 😂

Paul has a wonderful eye for detail which helps in capturing truly unique images.
He has a relaxed and friendly approach and is happy to listen to your ideas but also has plenty of his own.
When working with him, it feels like a truly collaborative effort.
It was also a truly enjoyable experience.
Highly recommended!

After enjoying the relative shade of the trees around the brook, it was time to climb onto Higher Tor and play around with some costume changes 😁

I knew the view into the valley below would make for a great backdrop and between us and my rucksack of oddments, we put together this warrior look … also got a couple of odd smiles from dog walkers 😁

Megan enjoyed the ‘Boudicca’ vibe and we decided to continue this a little bit down from Belstone Tor, beside a rather splendid Rowan tree I knew and then a little below under the magnificent hawthorn 😍

The weather by this point had got way to ‘nice’ for my liking 🤣 However, this worked wonderfully for our last stop … those bluebells!

It was a rather productive day, we ended up with dozens of images that I think any creative type would be more than happy with, I know both Megan and I were 😍
